Friend's Pass and Game Access

Quick Answer

There is no Friend’s Pass at launch. Arrange game access for both players before your session; buying one copy does not grant a partner free access to the full adventure.

We Were Here Tomorrow does not offer a Friend's Pass at launch. Do not buy one copy expecting to invite a second player into the full adventure for free. Plan game access for both people before arranging your session.

Before release, executive producer Luite Douma said the feature would not be included in this title for the time being because it needed additional backend infrastructure. The possibility of a similar feature in future series entries was discussed, but that was not a promise of a future Tomorrow update or an announced date.

What the missing pass means for your purchase

A Friend's Pass would let someone who owns the game invite a partner who does not own it. That is the specific feature missing here. An ordinary invitation to a lobby is not a free-game entitlement, so discovering an invite option does not change the purchase requirement.

Tomorrow requires two players online. Arrange access for both players on their chosen supported systems: Windows PC through Steam, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S. If only one person buys it and the other has no access, the pair is not ready simply because the first person can start the game.

For the most straightforward plan, have each player confirm their own copy and platform access before either of you schedules a long session. Avoid treating one account's library, a promotional price, or a bundle title as proof of what the other account can play.

Crossplay does not provide the second copy

Crossplay is available between the supported PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S versions. This gives you flexibility when you already use different devices. It does not turn an invitation into a complimentary copy of the game.

Keep these requirements separate:

Feature or requirementWhat it changes
CrossplayLets supported platforms play together
Friend's PassWould provide a non-owner with partner access; not offered at launch
Game accessLets each person launch the game on their system
Console online accessMeets the platform's multiplayer subscription requirement

If your friend is on a different supported platform, you can choose that version without first moving both people onto the same platform. You still need to resolve game access for each person.

A Fan Edition is not a partner pass

Steam offers a Fan Edition and a Complete Fan Pack bundle. These are extra-content purchase options, not a substitute for a second player's access. The announced Fan Edition includes additional downloadable content and the official soundtrack, with the soundtrack also available separately.

Likewise, We Were Here Expeditions: The FriendShip is the title of a separate series game. Its name does not refer to a Friend's Pass for Tomorrow. Search and purchase using the complete Tomorrow title if that is the game you want to play.

Steam also lists Family Sharing as a product feature. That label is not an announcement of a Tomorrow Friend's Pass. Do not infer simultaneous two-player access from the label alone; this page does not establish account-sharing or concurrent-license rules.

Playing together in the same home

Tomorrow has no local split-screen mode. Two people sitting together still need an online setup rather than two controllers attached to one copy on one screen. The game's puzzles rely on the players receiving different information and explaining their view to each other.

For PC players, the listed requirements include an internet connection and a working PC-compatible microphone for both people. PS5 online play requires PlayStation Plus. Xbox console play also requires an applicable online multiplayer subscription.

Being in the same room therefore does not remove either the online requirement or the need to arrange access for the second player. Check the setup before purchasing specifically for couch play.

If the second purchase is the deciding factor

Work out whether both people want to commit to the adventure before choosing extras. The base game is the relevant starting purchase; a soundtrack or fan add-on is optional. You can also begin Tomorrow without buying the earlier games, since it is a standalone adventure.

If you are waiting specifically for a Friend's Pass, no launch announcement gives a date to wait for. Treat the current release as a game requiring access for both players. A general comment about future series entries should not be converted into a claim that a pass is already planned for Tomorrow.
